Description
Allium 'Nigrum' is an elegant and resilient ornamental onion that blooms in June with flat, umbrella-shaped flower heads in ivory white, each star-shaped flower featuring a hint of green at its center. Despite its name, the flower is not black—the name refers instead to the dark seeds that follow after blooming.
Each flower head is dense and symmetrical, about 10–15 cm wide, and carried on sturdy, upright stems that reach a height of around 60–80 cm. Allium nigrum has a sculptural, understated presence that makes it ideal for more refined plantings or as a structural element among perennials. Blooming later than many other alliums, it brings a quiet strength and classic beauty to the early summer garden.
